GatherUp (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a private invitation app for people you trust. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
If you have questions, contact us at: support@gatherupsocial.app
1. Who this applies to
This policy applies to the GatherUp mobile app and related services. By creating an account or using GatherUp, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Phone number — used to sign in with a one-time verification code (SMS).
- Display name — shown to your approved contacts.
- Contacts and invitations — who you connect with, invitations you send or receive, replies (RSVPs), and messages in invitation threads.
- Optional invitation content — titles, messages, photos, videos, places (including map coordinates and addresses), and venue links you choose to attach.
- Groups — group names and members you add from your approved contacts.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app information — such as device type and app version, to keep the app working and fix problems.
- Push notification token — if you turn on notifications, we store a token so we can send alerts about invitations and replies (when that feature is enabled).
- First-party usage analytics — described in detail in Section 3 below.
Information we do not collect by default
- Background or continuous location — we do not track your real-world movements or build a history of places you visit over time.
- Location from your device — we only access your device location when you choose to attach a place to an invitation. We do not track your location in the background.
- Photos and videos — we only access media you select to attach to an invitation.
3. Analytics — and how it differs from invitation location
GatherUp includes a privacy-first analytics system so we can understand how the app is used, fix problems, and improve the product. This is separate from the location data you attach to invitations.
What our analytics include
We may record events such as:
- Account and onboarding steps (for example, sign-up completed).
- Invitations created, sent, opened, accepted, or declined.
- Whether an invitation included a location or media (yes/no).
- The general type of place attached to an invitation or selected in the map picker (for example: “park”, “beach”, “restaurant”) — not the specific address or GPS coordinates.
- How a place was chosen (for example: map pin, search, or current location).
- Contact and group actions at a high level (for example: contact added, group created).
- Notification and reply activity (for example: RSVP submitted).
Analytics events use a pseudonymous install identifier stored on your device. They are designed not to include message text, contact names, phone numbers, specific addresses, or GPS coordinates.
What our analytics do not include
We do not use analytics to:
- Track where you go in daily life.
- Record how often you visit a particular place.
- Store latitude/longitude in our analytics system.
- Sell your data to advertisers.
- Use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
Aggregated statistics
We may compute aggregated, de-identified statistics from analytics and app usage (for example: total invitations sent per week, popular location categories such as “park” vs “restaurant”). These statistics do not identify individual users and may be used to improve GatherUp and understand product trends.
Invitation location is not “tracking”
If you attach a place to an invitation, we store that place (name, address, and coordinates) with that invitation so your invited contacts can see where to meet. That is content you choose to share for a specific invite — not background location tracking and not the same as our analytics system.
4. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and secure your account (phone sign-in).
- Let you add contacts, send and receive invitations, and reply to invites.
- Show places and media you attach to invitations.
- Send notifications about invitations and activity (if you enable notifications).
- Understand app usage through first-party analytics (Section 3).
- Improve reliability, fix bugs, and plan product improvements.
- Comply with law and protect the safety of users.
We do not use your information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
5. Who can see your information
GatherUp is designed for private sharing:
- Your profile name is visible to people you are connected with as approved contacts.
- Invitations are visible only to the sender and the people they invite.
- Contact requests and invite links work only between people who choose to connect — GatherUp is not a public directory.
We use Supabase (a cloud hosting provider) to store account and app data securely. Supabase processes data on our behalf under their security and privacy standards.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
6. How long we keep your information
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and associated data from our systems, subject to any legal retention requirements.
7. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, contacts, and invitations.
- Control notifications in your iPhone Settings or during GatherUp onboarding.
- Control location by choosing not to attach a place, or by denying location permission (you can still search for places manually in the map picker).
- Control contacts by choosing who to connect with and adjusting privacy settings in the Contacts area of the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access or correction). Contact us at support@gatherupsocial.app to make a request.
8. Children
GatherUp is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls on our database. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
10. International users
Your information may be stored and processed in countries where our service providers operate (including where Supabase hosts data). By using GatherUp, you understand your information may be transferred to those locations.
11. Beta software
GatherUp may be offered as beta or test software (including via TestFlight). Features may change, and occasional errors may occur. We appreciate your feedback at support@gatherupsocial.app.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at https://gatherupsocial.app/privacy and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of GatherUp after changes means you accept the updated policy.
